3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy is great for off-road jogging and dealing with terrain, from bumpy pavements to woodland tracks. They are also easier to move up and down kerbs in comparison to 4-wheel models.
MadeForMums reviews editor Kath tried one of these 3 wheel strollers-wheelers with her newborn and 3 year old, and put it through its paces on the asphalt and on the muddy ground. Check out her review here.
Stability
Four-wheel buggies, which have their centre of gravity balanced by your child’s weight within the seat are generally more stable than three-wheelers. But that doesn’t mean that a three wheeled buggies-wheel buggy isn’t worth considering, since the majority of them are built to cope with everything from rough terrain to bustling high streets.
Find a buggie with large rear wheels, and a lockable wheel on the front. This makes it more comfortable to drive and less likely to fall off when driving on rough roads. These all-terrain buggies typically have pneumatic tyres, too. They are great at handling surfaces that aren’t paved and can even be used on sandy beaches or woodland tracks.
They’re also the best buggies for jogging with, as they provide excellent stability on rough terrain and help you keep up with your running partner. They can also go up and down steep kerbs, and many have spring suspension that is built-in, so your baby will have an enjoyable ride.
One thing that makes a pushchair with three wheels difficult to manoeuvre is the wide frame, which can make it difficult to squeeze into narrow spaces and tight doors than a 4-wheeler. However some manufacturers have solved this issue by implementing a clever design that makes the wheels fold upwards when not in use, which decreases their overall size and allows you navigate through doorways easily.
If yes, make sure to check for a lie-flat positioning and whether the design is compatible with second seats and buggy boards (if you’d like to add the toddler). If so, ensure that it is in a lie-flat position and whether the design is compatible with second-seats and buggy boards (if you want to add the toddler to the buggy). Many 3 wheel parent facing pushchair-wheelers can fold flat and be stacked upright. This is a good option for those with limited space in your boot or have limited storage at home. However, some require you to take out the front wheel before folding if you want it to fit in even more compact spaces.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies generally offer better manoeuvrability than four-wheeled pushchairs. Many of them have a swivelling wheels on the front that allows you to steer and change direction using only one hand. Some models come with locks on the wheel to provide stability on rougher terrain. Certain models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board, if you plan to expand your family.
If you’re thinking of taking your three-wheeled buggy off roads, you should consider choosing one with air-filled tyres (also known as pneumatic tyres) which are able to withstand the toughest terrain. These tyres will need periodic pumping, but will be far more durable than solid tyres and more likely to be puncture-proof. Choose a model that has a an adjustable swivelling front wheel that locks to assist you in maneuvering difficult surfaces.
A single front wheel may also be a reason that three-wheelers tend to be more bulkier than buggies with four wheels when folded. Check to see if the model you’re considering can fit in the boot of your car and is able to be raised if needed. Some models can be folded with one hand, and they can be raised when folded. This will save space in small car boot.
A quality 3 wheel pushchair can cope with all terrains, from busy streets to woodland tracks. It’s important to think about what you’ll be using it for day-to-day. If you will be making the school run with it, it must be able to handle the kerbs and steep slopes. If you’ll be running on it, ensure it has an adjustable swivelling’stretch’ lockable front wheel to keep the ride safe.
MFM reviewer Kath found her three-wheeled buggy able to cope really well on the countryside and urban walks. She said it was able to navigate cobbles, rocky paths and bumpy pavements effortlessly and felt pleasant when jogging. It is also a good choice for day trips as it has a lot of storage space. It has an enormous, spacious, zip-top covered basket as well as an extendable, 50+ UV hood. It can also be modified to accommodate babies from birth using an adjustable seat that can be sat on or a carry cot, as well as being compatible with most popular second seats and buggy boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The primary difference between a fabric seat and a modular one is the fabric sling. It is placed inside the buggy frame, rather than being positioned on top of it like the modular chair. This enables a much more ergonomically correct position for babies, which instantly delivers a lower centre of gravity at the right height. This leads to a smoother push, a lighter curb-pop (you don’t need to exert the same effort and weight to lift the buggy off the curb) and increased stability and balance.
These seats also come with Sling fabrics that are simple to clean and durable. They were designed specifically with applications for sling chairs in mind they are UV resistant and air-tight. They are also easy to maintain using mild soap and warm water.
If you are a jogger, or you like off-roading then an all-terrain buggy is more likely to suit your requirements than a four-wheeled buggy. These models generally have a larger, more stable base and utilise tyres with air to allow for smooth and agile movement on rough ground.
A brand most well-known for its car seats, Maxi-Cosi has recently added a new 3 wheel twin stroller-wheeler to its lineup with the Stella. This all-terrain buggy boasts a large, spacious and impressively growing seat that can be world facing or parent facing and reclines flat thanks to a new 5-point safety harness. It can be used as a baby with an infant car seat or carrycot and comes with a reasonably size shopping basket, hood with zip pockets, and a convenient one-hand fold.
This luxury 3 wheeler made for the most discerning buggy owners is as gorgeous to see as it is functional. The sleek frame is finished in a striking pewter black with touches of silver-burnished aluminium all over and gives it a true wow factor. A large, padded seat that is world or parent-facing, with a more secure 5-point safety harness, as well as an entire set of rain covers make this an ideal option for parents who are active.
Modular Seat
Modular seating can be used to create an array of configurations to meet various seating requirements. Modular seating can be easily adjusted to create a cozy place to watch films, or a spacious arrangement to entertain guests. Many modular seating systems include cushions that can be removed which makes it easy to clean up spills or stain.
Modular Seating is available in various styles to fit with your existing decor or as an accent piece. A variety of fabric, color and shape options ensures that you can find an alternative seating option that suits your style. Various functional features are also available in modular seating like hidden storage compartments that allow for an easy organization and cleaning of living spaces.
3-wheel buggies provide more stability than strollers with four wheels, which makes them ideal for off-road or all terrain adventures. The huge, highly maneuverable front wheel allows for a quick and smooth movement, whereas the tyres are generally air-filled and feature suspension, providing an excellent ride on the roughest of trails and roads. The wheels aren’t as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they are with 4 wheeled pushchairs. This makes them perfect for walking uphill.
Often 3-wheel prams are favorite for parents who love running and jogging with their child as they offer great agility and are less bulky than their 4-wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL for example has a sleek burnished silver aluminum frame, which has an easy one-hand fold as well as rear and forward facing seats. Meanwhile, the Babyzen Yoyo has an all black frame, a carrycot with full lie flat position, air-filled tyres and 3 Wheel Stroller With Bassinet (Telegra.Ph) recline positions.
Another great all-terrain option is the incredibly lightweight, highly maneuverable and stunningly elegant Mountain Buggy Sport verso. This buggy will last you from birth, and comes with a carrycot, and will last until toddlerhood with the adjustable seat. It does this all within the footprint of one buggy.
The most recent model, duet(tm), is a side-by-side vehicle that’s small enough for urban living, yet large on innovation and control. It has an exclusive seat made of fabric that is set snugly within the frame at the ideal height to distribute the weight. This makes it easy jumps over kerbs, and navigates neighborhoods and cities.
