3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy is utilized for off-road trails and for tackling terrain such as uneven paths or woodland tracks. They are also more easy to maneuver up and down kerbs than models with four wheels.
Kath, the editor of MadeForMums reviews, has tested one of these three-wheelers on tarmac, as well as on various terrains. You can read her full review here.
Stability
Four-wheel buggies, with their center of gravity being balanced by your child’s weight in the seat, are generally more stable than three-wheelers. But that doesn’t mean that the three-wheel buggie isn’t worth considering, as the majority of these models are made to withstand anything from rough terrain to busy high-streets.
Find a buggie with large rear wheels, and a lockable wheel on the front. This will make it easier to drive and less likely to snap apart when you’re on bumpy roads. These all-terrain buggies often have pneumatic tyres, too. They are ideal for handling uneven surfaces and can even be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodland.
They are also great buggies to jog with since they offer excellent stability on more rough terrain, and can aid you in staying with your running partner. They are also great for going up and down steep kerbs Most buggies come with a suspension built in that ensures your child will have a pleasant ride.
One thing that can make a pushchair with three wheels difficult to maneuver is the broad frame, which can make it harder to fit into narrow spaces and tight doors than a four-wheeler. Some manufacturers have addressed this problem with a clever design which turns the wheels upside down when they are not being used. This reduces their size and makes it easier to squeeze through doors.
You’ll also need to consider whether the buggy you choose to use is suitable for your baby from birth, or if you’re planning on using it with an infant car seat or carry cot. Check if the buggy has a lie-flat feature and if it’s compatible with a second seat and buggy boards if you intend to take your toddler along. A lot of 3-wheelers fold flat, and later be stacked upright. This is a great option if you only have a small boot space or have limited storage at home. Some 3 wheel baby stroller-wheelers require you take off the front wheel to fold into smaller spaces.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies generally provide better maneuverability than pushchairs with four wheels. A majority of them have a swivelling wheel on the front that allows you to steer and change direction using just one hand. Some models also have a lockable front wheel which gives you security on more difficult terrain. Some models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board if you’re looking to grow your family.
If you are planning to take your three-wheeled buggies off the paved roads, you should choose one that has pneumatic tyres. They can handle the most difficult terrain. These tyres will need pumping up occasionally but they’ll be more durable than tyres that are solid and are more likely to be puncture-proof. You should choose a model that has an adjustable front wheel that is locked to help you navigate tricky surfaces.
When folded, three-wheelers can be heavier than four-wheeled buggies due to the single front wheel. Check to see if the model you’re considering fits in the boot of your car and is able to be stood up, in the event that it is needed. Some models can be folded with just one hand and stand on their own when collapsed, which will save space in car boot spaces that are smaller.
A quality 3 wheel pushchair is able to cope with all terrains, from busy streets to woodland tracks. But it’s important to consider the purpose you’ll use it for day-to-day. If you will be making the school run with it, it must be able to handle sharp slopes and kerbs. If you intend to jog on it, ensure it has a swivelling “stretch front wheel’ that can be locked. This will keep the ride smooth.
MFM reviewer Kath discovered her three-wheeled buggy was able to handle well on both urban and countryside walks. She noted that it could navigate rocky paths, cobbles and bumpy pavements easily and was comfortable to run with too. It’s also a great option for day trips as it offers plenty of storage space, including a huge, spacious basket with zip-top cover and an extendable 50+ UV hood. It can also be modified to accommodate babies from birth using a lie-flat seat or carry cot, in addition to being compatible with most popular second-seats and buggy boards.
Fabric Sling Seat
The key difference between a fabric sling and modular seats is that the fabric sling sits snugly inside the buggy frame rather than sitting on top like a modular seat would. This allows for a more comfortable and ergonomically-correct position for the baby, which results in a lower center of gravity at the ideal height. This in turn makes for an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you don’t need much effort or weight to lift the buggy off the nose of a curb) and a better balance and stability.
The sling fabrics that are used in these types of buggy seats are also very hard-wearing and easy to clean. They were designed specifically with applications for sling chairs in mind they are durable and breathable. These fabrics are also very easy to maintain using mild soap and warm water.
If you’re a jogger or are a fan of off-roading, a all terrain 3 wheeler is likely to be more your bag than a 4-wheel buggy. These models have a larger base, are more stable and utilize air-filled tyres for smooth and easy movement on rough terrain.
A brand best known for its car seats, Maxi-Cosi has recently added the latest 3-wheeler to its line-up with the Stella. Modular Seat
Modular seating allows for an array of configurations to suit different seating needs. Modular seating can be easily adjusted to create a comfortable space to watch movies or a spacious arrangement to entertain guests. A lot of modular seating systems come with cushion covers that can be removed, making it easier to wash spills and stain.
Modular Seating can be designed to blend with existing decors or stand out as an accent piece. You can select from a variety of colors, fabrics and shapes to design a modular seating that suits your style. Modular seating also comes with many useful features, such as hidden storage compartments for easy organization.
3-wheel buggies provide more stability than strollers with four wheels, making them ideal for off-road or all terrain adventures. The large front wheel, which is highly maneuverable, allows for smooth and swift movement. The tyres that are typically filled with air and have suspension, offer a comfortable ride on even the most rough trails and roads. They are also ideal for navigating up hills because the wheels aren’t as close to ground as they are on four wheel pushchairs.
Often 3 wheel stroller with bassinet-wheel prams are popular choice for parents who enjoy running and jogging with their baby, as they provide excellent mobility and are much more sleek than their 4-wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL, for instance, is a sleek, burnished aluminum frame with a fast one-handed fold as well as rear-facing and forward-facing seats. The Babyzen Yoyo, on the other hand, has an all-black frame that comes with a carrycot that can be set in a full lie-flat position and air-filled tyres.

This is all done within the footprint of one buggy.
