UPVC Replacement Door Handles
The handles on your doors wear out over time and will need to be replaced. When replacing them, it is essential that the new handles are in line with the exact dimensions of the handle that was previously used.
The top screw position, the lever and the keyhole size are the three measurements that you need to check. Use the size guide to help with this.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever handle is a modern door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This style of door handle is available in a wide range of designs and finishes. A number of manufacturers offer this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The uPVC/Composite door handles are made of robust materials and are ideal for doors with multi-point locks that require a strong design. The handles are inline and work off the same spindle and screw fixings. They can be easily incorporated into existing or new uPVC/composite door handles doors.
The handle can be positioned and angled to suit any user. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps to ensure that the quality of finish and performance is maintained over time. The sprung lever can also be shortened to fit more locks. This is particularly useful for narrower doors where the cylinder is further back from the door. A shortened lever is also a good choice for doors where the latch could be activated by the thumb turn on the inside.
Lever Pad
The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles that are commonly found on doors. The handle can operate from a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are typically used on UPVC bi-fold doors handle with double glazed window handle glazing and come in a variety of finishes and variations.
The handles have been tested to a minimum of 200 000 cycles and are available in several finishes, including white window handles Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high level of durability and performance for the intended use.
All UPVC lever pads for handles include a spindle and screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm permit a bigger size handle that is often a benefit in replacing a defective or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The handle levers come with springs, which eliminate the issue of door handles that move out of the horizontal position when they are not being used.
It is crucial to ensure that the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC doors when choosing a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is often called the ‘handle centre’ or ‘cylinder centres’ and is a critical aspect to match the right handles.
After you have identified the correct PZ size and the correct PZ size, you must ensure that the push and lever pads are designed to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are usually round or square with an internal lever, and an external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads that we offer are sprung, which means that they will return to their horizontal position after not in use, rather than hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This keeps draughts out of the property. It is also the case that the majority of UPVC handle lever pad style handles are hand-operated, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. Cylinder locks are operated by using a key that unlocks the cylinder’s case. This reveals pins that can be aligned with those in the lock, and permit them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins, with external and internal doors usually requiring different levels of security.
Selecting the right cylinder for your needs is vitally important; this is dependent on how your doors and handle are utilized. For instance, doors that are external should be fitted with a more secure cylinder while internal doors can be secured with the standard cylinder. Certain cylinders are equipped with additional features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
A euro cylinder must be measured correctly to ensure it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the central screw hole to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in its position, you can remove it. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks such as lock snapping, so it is important to make sure it’s not too long.
Most modern cylinders are constructed with anti-drill and bump resistance features that are built into their design. They are designed to decrease the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to turn in a different direction. This can help to deflect attacks and keep your door safe.
There are cylinders that have been designed to resist snapping. This is an increasingly common kind of attack on cylinders, where the break line in the lock is targeted using a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder to allow the door to be opened. This is much quicker and easier to achieve than opening the door with a multipoint lock and leaves no evidence of a burglary, which could hinder the insurance claim.
Spring Cassette
This spring cassette is found in the base plate of your door handle. It offers a spring-loaded solution to return the multipoint lock handles to their normal position after using. The handles had no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was disengaged. Adding this simple component is one of the most effective ways to fix this, and is an excellent way to stop your upvc doors from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as they are not always easy to manually close by hand.
These spring cassettes are specially made for use with multipoint locks sprung but they won’t work with non-sprung multipoint handles. You will need to have a bespoke hole cut into the backplate to allow them to fit (please check the image for a technical diagram). They are a replacement upvc window handles for existing damaged or missing cassettes inside the door handle backplate of various brands of uPVC doors. They are sold as one unit. They have a square-cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes are a great value solution to the problem of door handles that are sagging. These spring cassettes are easy to install and will increase the lifespan of your uPVC door.
